Travel Blog

I wanted to share my trip itineraries here so here we go!

Iceland

Pin all your favorite spots ahead of time in Google Maps (I focused my trip primarily on the South Coast)

Keep in mind you’ll be driving a lot for the trip and it would be ideal to have at least two drivers (the full ring road is 828 miles)

Download the Parka App to pay for scenic spots (there’s a bunch of cameras everywhere that capture your license place when you enter parking lots at popular scenic destinations (such as waterfalls and lagoons) around Ring Road

If you're traveling in a camper van for safety be sure to bookmark these pages on your phone while you’re traveling: en.vendir.is for wind speed monitoring and road.is for road closures. The rain and wind are no joke in Iceland and safety is critical when you’re driving high clearance vehicles like a camper van

Don’t forget to bring your rain gear (rain pants, rain jacket,  gloves) and a merino wool sweater for warmth since it will probably be very cold, rainy, and super windy

Fly into KEF via Icelandair

Take a quick 10 minute CampEasy van shuttle to CampEasy HQ to pick up the camper van

Take the Camp Easy Viking 4x4 camper van (equipped with a sink , trekking poles to rent, towel, heater, fridge, duvet cover, pillows, tinted windows, curtains, camp stove, bowls, mugs, plates, cutting board, wifi, usb , and gps navigation)

Grocery shop ahead of time for meals at Bonus in KEF to save money rather than eating out

Camp at Porlakshofn campsite (accepts credit cards and has a nice clean bathroom and shower - it also includes a token)

If you're a knitter (like me) be sure to visit Hannyrdabudin yarn shop in Selfoss

Hike Seljalandsfoss waterfall

Hike Skogafoss waterfall

Hike Kvernufoss waterfall (be on the lookout for roaming mama and baby sheep and drive carefully to the trailhead)

Camp at Vik Tjaldsvaedi for 1 night (awesome campsite and great clean bathrooms and showers - also includes a free shower token)

Grab coffee at Skool Beans in Vik  (it's a cool coffee shop in a school bus)

Hike Reynisfjara black sand beach (this area is super dangerous so be careful about sneaker waves)

Hike Fjadrarglufur scenic canyon viewpoint

Camp at Skaftafell in Vatnajokull National Park (great clean bathrooms and there’s showers available)

Hike Skaftafellfoss

Walk around or go sea kayaking at Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

Check out Diamond Beach

Hike Mulagljufur Canyon

Visit the Reykjadalur Hot Springs for a self care day (1 hour hike in) - You’ll need to pay for parking at the Reykjadalur Lodge, visit the bathroom, BYO lunch, and be sure to change into your swimsuit before you go since there’s not a place to change at the hot springs

Grab hot cocoa from Reykjadalur Lodge/Cafe on your way out

Stay at Frost and Fire Boutique Hotel in Hveragerõi for your last night and you won't regret it. The hotel and hot tubs are heated with hot steam from geothermal energy (the towels even smell like rye bread)
